Why does the new sci-fi series ending feel brilliant or like a cop-out?

I just finished watching the new sci-fi series everyone's talking about, and I'm left wondering if the confusing ending was actually brilliant or just poorly explained. I keep replaying the final scene in my head, trying to piece together the protagonist's choice, but I can't decide if it was a satisfying conclusion to their journey or a narrative cop-out.

I rewatched the last scene twice and the choice still lands like a door left a crack open. It feels earned but not tidy, and that unsettles me in a curious way.

Part of me suspects they dodged a real turning point, making the ending feel glossy instead of earned. Could be deliberate, or maybe I just wanted a moment of certainty.

I tried to map the timeline and pause on the moment the decision is made, looked at the in‑world rules, and still nothing felt conclusive, so I started random theories and then dropped them.

Is the real problem here the protagonist's choice or our craving for a neat closure?
