Why does wine disrupt deep sleep when tracking with a sleep tracker?
#1
I’ve been tracking my sleep and noticed my deep sleep duration seems to drop significantly whenever I have even one glass of wine in the evening. I thought it might help me fall asleep faster, but the data shows my rest is much less restorative. Has anyone else seen this kind of pattern with their own sleep tracking?

Yep I see this too. A single glass helps me drift off faster but the deep sleep portion on my tracker collapses after wine—like from the 20s percent to single digits. If I skip alcohol for a few nights, deep sleep percentage improves and I wake up less groggy.

I’m not sure the data is reliable enough to pin it on wine. My numbers bounce around anyway. Sometimes I sleep fine after wine if I’m tired or I exercised; other times not. Could be timing, caffeine, or just a bad night.

I did a week where I moved wine earlier and kept a steady bedtime. Deep sleep still looked off, but I slept more hours and woke up fewer times. Not conclusive.

Has anyone tried delaying wine by a couple hours or skipping it entirely to see if the deep sleep rebound is real?
