Why is cutting screen time so hard without missing out at work?
#1
I’ve been trying to cut down my screen time, but every time I do, I feel like I’m missing out on something important or falling behind at work. It’s like the digital world has become my default reality and stepping away feels like a social and professional risk. Has anyone else managed to find a balance that doesn’t make you feel anxious or disconnected?

I tried the 'only check work stuff in a 90 minute window' plan for a week. Sleep got a little better, but the next morning I woke up thinking I’d missed something and felt tense all day about messages piling up.

Cutting back felt like I was stepping off a moving sidewalk. I learned to mute noncritical chats and kept a single glance at the inbox, but I still caught myself doomscrolling late at night out of habit.

Is the real problem the fear of missing out or is it just the habit of scrolling?

I sometimes drift to a paper book or a walk, and then catch myself checking the clock. It’s imperfect, but I think the balance is in deciding what actually needs a quick answer and what can wait, even if I never feel totally caught up.
