Why is it so tough to find a signature scent that lasts all day?

I’ve been trying to find a signature scent for a while, but everything I try either fades too fast or just doesn’t feel like “me” after a few hours. How do you know when you’ve actually found the right one that you’ll want to wear every day?

I’ve chased that signature scent for months. The moment I thought I found it, it faded to nothing by lunch. What helped was wearing tests that lasted all day and noting how it changed after coffee, after a gym session, after the dryer heat. It isn’t dramatic, just a tiny shift in the mirror that tells you if it’s really you.

I did land on one that lasts, but after a week it stopped feeling like me. It clung a bit too heavy and I stopped reaching for it. I kept it for weekends and wore something lighter on weekdays. The right one might be the one you forget you’re wearing until someone notices.

I once bought something that smelled perfect in the shop and awful on my skin an hour later. I started wondering if it’s the scent or the room I’m in—air conditioning, humidity, the clothes I happen to wear that day. Maybe I’m chasing the wrong thing entirely.

Do you think the real problem isn’t the scent itself but how you want to feel wearing it?
