Why is my Civic brake pedal sinking to the floor with no leak?

My 2016 Civic’s brake pedal has started feeling a bit soft and goes closer to the floor than it used to. I checked the fluid level in the master cylinder and it’s still full, so I’m not seeing an obvious leak. I’m wondering if air could have gotten into the lines somehow or if the brake fluid itself is the issue.

That sounds like you’re into the fuzzy pedal realm. Full reservoir but a soft pedal usually means air in the lines or a failing seal in the master cylinder.

I had a similar thing on my old Civic. I bled the brakes myself and a little air kept coming out until the pedal felt normal again.

Could be a hidden leak somewhere you don’t see, like a caliper piston seal or a tiny line crack. Sometimes the leak only shows up after a drive heats things up.

A faulty brake booster or vacuum line can mess with pedal feel too. If the engine is hissing or the pedal stays down longer when you press, that’s a clue to check the booster.

Whatever it is, make this a priority and don’t drive it hard until it’s checked. A soft pedal can turn into a failure under heavy braking.

If you pump it with the engine off and it firms up, that hints booster or air in the lines rather than the pedal itself.

Worth considering the fluid itself. If it’s DOT 3/4 that’s old or contaminated, it can feel off after a long drive. A full flush and fresh fluid could change things, but don’t assume that fixes it.
