Why is my LDL high but triglycerides low, and what does that mean for my heart?

I just got my lipid panel results back and my LDL cholesterol is flagged as high, but my triglycerides are surprisingly low. I’m trying to understand if this specific pattern means something, since everything I read online seems to talk about them both being high together.

That pattern isn’t unheard of. High LDL can show up even when triglycerides are low, and the two don’t always move together.

A few months ago I had the same readout. I changed my diet a bit—more fiber, fewer refined carbs—and triglycerides stayed low, but the cholesterol remained high.

I keep thinking there might be more to the story than the basic panel: particle size or other markers like HDL or Lp(a). A standard test doesn’t capture all of that, so it can feel incomplete.

Could this be a fluke or lab variation? It’s just one read, and I’m wondering if it should be repeated before deciding what to do next with a clinician. I’d bring it up and see what they think about a repeat panel or extra tests.
