Why is my phone draining battery overnight on mobile network standby?
#1
My new phone’s battery drains almost 20% overnight with everything closed and it’s not even a week old. I checked the battery usage stats and the biggest culprit seems to be the mobile network standby, which is odd because I have a strong Wi-Fi signal at home. I’m wondering if there’s a setting I’m missing or if this is just how it is now.

I had something like that when I got my new phone. Overnight battery would drop 15–20% and the log pointed to a big chunk from standby. I experimented with background data and turned off a couple carrier features I wasn’t using. It cooled down a bit after a day or two, but it wasn’t a magic fix.

Check for updates to the carrier settings and the OS. Even on a new device, firmware tweaks can fix power bugs that show up in the first week. After I updated and rebooted, the next night was much steadier.

I wouldn’t ignore the possibility that the phone is just re-establishing connections or pinging towers more than expected. If your Wi Fi is solid, make sure wifi calling isn’t fighting with the cellular radio, or try turning it off for a night and see if the drain changes.

Do you have 5G on by default or are you in a weak signal area? It could be forcing more radio activity and skewing the numbers.
