Why is my phone's battery draining overnight despite power management settings?

My new phone’s battery drains almost 20% overnight with everything closed and in battery saver mode. I’ve checked the usual suspects like background app refresh and screen brightness, but this standby drain feels excessive compared to my old model. Is there something specific in the **power management settings** I might be overlooking, or could this just be a quirk of the new OS?

Yeah, I ran into this with a newer model too. It felt like the OS itself was chewing power at night even when everything was asleep. When I checked the battery usage, a system service kept showing wakeups. I experimented by tightening a few app permissions and turning off a couple of background features, and the drain eased after a few days, though it never fully vanished.

It might not be your imagination or the OS entirely. Some batteries report healthy when they’re actually degraded. Take a look at the battery health readout if your phone has one, and consider a sanity check with a full charge cycle to see if the gauge settles.

I used to blame the OS, but sometimes a network oddity or a single app waking the device is the real culprit. I noticed worse overnight when the signal was weak, so radios stayed on longer. Do you have any single app or feature that stood out in the usage chart, and does it still show up after you reboot?

One more thing I learned by accident: after an update I saw a spike that looked like a quirk, and a days-long irritation later it calmed down. I’m not sure if it was the OS settling or a hidden setting, but I kept a closer eye on the toggle for always-on features and background refresh and it got steadier.
