Why is my resting heart rate so low on beta blockers?
#1
I’ve been on a beta-blocker for a few months now for my high blood pressure, and I’ve noticed my resting heart rate has gotten really low, sometimes dipping into the high 40s. My doctor says it’s expected, but it still feels strange and makes me a bit anxious, especially when I’m just sitting still and can feel my pulse so slow.

A few times I tried a slow 15 minute walk and then sat down to check again. The beat stayed low, but I felt a little steadier after taking a few slow breaths. I kept a small log for a couple weeks and the numbers mostly looked the same.

Could the real issue be anxiety about the number rather than the number itself? I keep worrying I’ll faint or miss something, even though I feel fine most of the day.

Yesterday I got distracted in a meeting and forgot to check, then remembered and was surprised the pulse hadn’t jumped during a moment of stress. It wandered in my head for a while before I drifted to thinking about water and a snack.
