Why is my retargeting click-through rate high but conversions so low?
#1
I’ve been running a small retargeting campaign for my online store, and I can’t figure out why the click-through rate is so high but the actual conversions are almost non-existent. The ad creative seems to resonate, but maybe my landing page isn’t aligned with the promise of the ad, or the audience is just window-shopping after all.

I did something similar last quarter. CTR looked great but orders stayed flat. I finally found the mismatch: the ad promised a deal, but the landing page didn’t clearly deliver it. I updated the landing header to reflect the same offer and I shortened the checkout flow by removing a step. It moved the conversation a bit, but the lift was modest.

People click and vanish really fast. We saw session times around 20 seconds, then back out. I tried adding trust signals and shipping timelines up front, but the numbers didn’t budge much. Maybe this audience is window-shopping after all.

I tried swapping in more social proof and a faster buy button, hoping that friction would drop. Conversions barely budged; maybe the page speed or the product page layout is letting them down after the click.

Did you test a version of the landing page that mirrors the ad promise exactly? If not, that seems like a simple check, though I’m not sure it’s the real bottleneck.
