Why is our grocery bill rising every month, is it inflation?

I’m trying to figure out if my family’s budget is just unusually tight or if others are seeing this too. Our grocery bill for the same basic items seems to jump every single month, and I can’t pinpoint one thing causing it—it’s just everything creeping up a little at a time.

Ours crept up month to month too. A little more on eggs here a touch more on dairy there and suddenly the weekly shop felt heavier. I started keeping receipts for a month just to see where the bumps were coming from and it was a lot of small changes adding up.

I did a quick unit price check on staples and noticed the per ounce price drifted up on several items. We swapped to store brands and simpler meals but the overall bill still edged higher most weeks.

There was a period when we had extra kids over after school and we grabbed more quick snacks and prepped meals and I swear that push alone added a chunk. Then I stopped and tried to bake more from scratch to cut costs but it balanced out oddly.

Maybe it isn’t just prices climbing maybe we are buying more overall or changing what counts as essential Could it be the real problem is how we budget around food
