Why is our weekly grocery bill $40 higher than it used to be?

I’m trying to figure out if my family’s budget is just unusually tight or if others are seeing this too. Our weekly grocery haul, for the exact same items, now consistently runs about forty dollars more than it did just a few months ago, and nothing about our shopping habits has changed.

Yeah, we saw the same thing here. Our weekly grocery haul for basically the same list has jumped about forty dollars in the last few months. Nothing obvious changed in our shopping, yet meat and dairy prices have spiked and some store brands got pricier too.

I started logging receipts month to month and compared staples like milk, eggs, chicken, and coffee. The price per item crept up, not just once in a while but steadily. Have you checked unit prices and price per ounce to see if it’s the same?

Some weeks we even grabbed a few extra things we thought we’d need and it added up. It makes you wonder if you’re fighting a trend or just a random spike. I’m not sure if the problem is bigger than our own habits most weeks.

I also heard folks say promotions changed and bag sizes shrink without a big sticker saying it. It might be hard to tell if you’re chasing a deal that isn’t there. Even if you’re careful, the total still feels higher.
