Why is that football clip of a head hit everywhere suddenly a meme?

I keep seeing this weirdly specific clip of a guy getting hit in the head with a football everywhere, but I have no idea why it's suddenly a thing. What’s the story behind this random moment becoming a meme?

I first saw it in a TikTok reel that loops clips like that all the time. It zooms in on the guy getting hit, then the clip sits there with the same punchline captions. Feels like it spread because it’s short, silly, and you can re-caption it easily without needing context. It’s a meme, honestly.

I tried to trace it back last week. The earliest clip I found was from a random college game, but the exact moment seems to have been uploaded separately and clipped for jokes. I think the algorithm kept showing it to people who like quick, reaction-y moments.

Then I saw it start popping up in groups that do reaction compilations, and one person slapped a 'when you realize it's Monday' caption on it and suddenly it was everywhere in a day or two. The numbers looked like a few thousand views turning into tens of thousands on a couple posts.

Is the real thing that people want simple, low effort humor, or is there something about the moment that hits differently and keeps it getting shared? hard to say, maybe I’m wrong about the motivation.
